Emma Watson is an English actress, model and activist. She is former Harry Potter star and has been widely recognized for her support for female empowerment. As United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador, she represents the organization HeForShe campaign, a movement that stresses the importance of equal rights advocacy amongst both genders.


In 2014, Emma Watson gave an incredibly empowering speech in United Nations that went viral. In her speech, she stated, “‘I want men to take up this mantle. So their daughters, sisters and mothers can be free from prejudice but also so that their sons have permission to be vulnerable and human too -- reclaim those parts of themselves they abandoned and in so be a more true and complete version of themselves,” (The Huffington Post, 9 Great Quotes From Emma Watson).

Emma Watson inspires me to fight for gender equality. Despite progress, society norms and traditions still dictates what men and women should do. These expectations, rules, and set of standards limits the actions of an individual. We are ought only to follow what is acceptable and justifiable to the society. I wanted to be like Emma someday, a person who fights for what she believes, and to have a voice in media to be able to influence other people.
