B. Answer the following questions briefly:

Why should teachers be aware of the differences in beliefs and practices of students in their class? (15 points)

  • Every student has a preferred way of processing information. Some could better absorb their lessons when they work alone than working with their peers. Some could answer mathematical questions quickly rather than make lengthy reflections; some could learn effectively while listening to music, while others could not. A student can be low in this area but high in another. Learning for each is a unique journey as no learner shares the same preferences. Students learning style affects teaching to such a degree that the teacher has to consider formulating different approaches to help their students learn effectively, like giving various questions and activities to assess each student's performance. The teacher needs to know their student's backgrounds and learning styles so that he/she will be able to plan a comprehensive task that could maximize their learning potential. Other than that, giving a variety of teaching methods increases classroom engagement. Teaching is a complex profession that continually requires new strategies to meet the ever-changing needs of the students.

Discuss the roles of the school and the teachers in developing social interaction for peace and harmony. (15 points)

  • Education is the way to connect countries, bringing human beings closer together. In many places around the globe, society suffers because of violent conflicts and war conditions. Recognizing the school and the teachers' critical role in fostering a culture of peace and harmony is necessary. School and teachers play a crucial role in creating a world where peace, equality, diversity, and unity prevail. According to Deutsch (1993), school and teachers are two of the most critical factors affecting students' hate and love notions. It is in the school where the knowledge, attitudes, values, behavioural competencies, and skills of peace and conflict resolution are learned actively. It is also where teachers address student hostility, resolve conflicts without violence, build and maintain mutually beneficial, harmonious relationships, and encourage honesty, compassion and harmony to enhance student life skills.

  • School and teachers foster positive social interactions among students and sustain strong collaborative partnerships with families and the larger community to support students' learning and well-being. It is therefore expected from teachers to have universal values, such as freedom, justice, human rights, gender equality, and respect for the right to live as well as qualities such as tolerance, appreciation of others, being fair and open-minded, being able and willing to consider other points of view, and looking beyond their self-interest. In other words, the teacher must sincerely attempt to be free of prejudice. They should also develop an understanding of peace and a desire for an internalized peaceful culture.
